Last October, Mike and spent a few days walking through Shropshire.  On our first, and slightly overlong, day we stopped and ate our lunch at Wroxeter (click here for report on the day).  Wroxeter was one of the largest cities in Roman Britain but is now some ruins, a visitor centre and a few houses.

As we sat and rested we looked at the Wrekin which, on this occasion, we were skirting round rather than going over, rested our legs, and realised we were going to be walking further than we had planned.

We saw a large building under construction, spoke to the builders and discovered that this was a recreation of a Roman villa built with Roman techniques.  There’s been a TV series about this on Channel 4 and the house is now open to the public (there’s a good article about it here).  I’m looking forward to going to have a good look at all this when I’m not in the middle of a 27 mile walking day.

Good grief, Andy – that looks suspiciously like a Travelodge to me..!

In the flesh (as it were) it looked a different – more monumental. However, this may make me view Travelodges in a new way.
