“I don’t rate being a pilgrim all that highly, because holy places can thrive only with the care and use of local people rather than visitors, no matter how devout they are.”

– Nick Mayhew Smith

This quote is obviously concentrating on holy places rather than being a pilgrim in terms of journey and what being a pilgrim does to a person.  However, it pays important attention to the essential place of local people in pilgrimage.
