At the moment of consecration

the priest’s fingers were ingrained with oil

from mending a puncture.

 

So  much more

than purity of clean withdrawal.

I really like those haiku-like first three lines, Andy. (Actually I think they stand best on their own without the last two — then you get the full effect of the intentionally ‘deflating’ (!) line about the puncture.
