under the gaze of the gull

through the clearing under the yew tree

past the tennis court debris

the battered bench, the lake,

under the gaze of the gull

here, pausing on the walk

surveying August end

it seems important

to note the cusp

the time of year

while all the while,

all the walk, the

seagull stood sentinel

upon the dead branch

above the lake

picked out by sun

I wrote the first draft of this at the recent Half Moon Poetry Workshop in Moseley Park.  I’m not sure if it’s finished or not.  Would be glad of any comments!
