Part of the joy of my life is convening the Birmingham Franciscan Companions. This is a group of ordinary folk – many from parishes in which I have served – who have been touched by the spirit of St Francis and St Clare and who wish to live this out.
We meet a few times a year at the Society of St Francis’ House at Glasshampton in rural Worcestershire. As quite a few members live in sharp urban areas, this is a real gift. Other meetings are for Mass and a meal afterwards. There is always a lot of laughter.
This is not about escape. You can read more about the life of Companions on the SSF website here. We have promised to aim at simplicity of life and serve those in need. The Birmingham Group has a Rule of Life which is here. The Quiet Days and the times together allow us to draw closer to Christ and to one another, and to find a deeper engagement with the world and with love.
