While walking the Cistercian Way, I read about a cave discovered in the Dordoigne that was full of human bones. The remains of medieval pilgrims preyed upon by bandits as they walked from Rocamador to Compostela.

The Stirchley Gorilla is a venerable and benevolent protector of pilgrims on the ancient Way from Kings Norton to Hailes, Tintern and beyond.

I thought, as I plodded, that for all the difficulties, at least pilgrims did not have to contend with that anymore.

But now I read about an emu attacking people on the sections of The Cistercian Way nearest to Cardiff. Until it is caught, best to travel in groups.
