The Birmingham Forum for Spiritual Directors and Companions are holding this meeting:

Pilgrimage
Open meeting: Wednesday 25th October, 7.00 for 7.30pm
St Mary’s Church Parish Centre, Vivian Road, Harbone B17 0DN

Christian pilgrimage is growing in popularity, with many pilgrim routes new established in the UK as well as in Europe.

Why do we want to go on pilgrimage? How do they grow our spirituality? And why have they become popular with people who say they have not faith? Andy Delmage will share his experience of pilgrimages in different parts of the UK and abroad. Mark and Jane Morton will talk about the Camino – the pilgrimage to Santiago.

All are welcome, but to provide an idea of numbers please email Sister Anna O’Connor if you wish to attend: ocnnorannam@gmail.com. The evening is free, but a donation is welcome.

let’s discover

“My spiritual director for many years was Brother Bernard, an immensely wise and mischievous Franciscan friar.  He would listen with a gravely sympathetic look on his face as I poured out my sorry tale of ministerial woes and difficulties, raising his eyebrows from time to time, nodding sagely, accepting the whole story.  It was by no means all self-pity.  Much of my ministry was hugely challenging, stretching my imagination, experience, learning and faith to the limits.  At the end of my story he would stay silent for a time.  Then he would throw back his head and roar with laughter.  ‘Clever old God,’ he would say.  ‘You’ve just described the most immense pile of shit.  Now the Lord we believe in is the risen Christ.  Let’s see what we can do with a pile of shit like this.  Come on.  Let’s discover what he has in mind for us.”
